The Schools Division Office of San Pedro, Laguna, in partnership with the University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED), conducted a Training-Workshop on Lesson Study from 11 to 13 May 2026.
The training introduced Lesson Study as a teacher-led and school-based professional development approach centered on improving instruction through collaborative planning, classroom observation, reflection, and lesson revision. Participants examined their existing teaching practices and compared them with the collaborative processes promoted by Lesson Study.
Four Lesson Study groups were formed: Elementary Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics, Elementary Science, and Secondary Science. The participants identified their roles, developed long-term goals and subgoals, and collaboratively planned research lessons focused on improving student learning.
The workshop also guided participants in conducting evidence-based post-lesson reflection and discussion. Feedback focused on the lesson and learners’ responses rather than on evaluating the teacher. Based on their observations and discussions, the groups proposed improvements and revised their research lessons.
Through the training, SDO San Pedro teachers strengthened their capacity to work collaboratively, reflect critically on classroom evidence, and design more responsive learning experiences for their students.
