UP NISMED celebrated its 61st Anniversary with a meaningful program that highlighted gratitude, dedication, and excellence. The celebration was held on 24 November 2025 at the Audiovisual Room, Vidal Tan Hall.
The event began with a Thanksgiving Mass that brought together the staff, current and former NISMED administrators, and invited retirees in prayer, as they expressed gratitude for six decades and one year of service, collaboration, and achievements. Presided over by Fr. CJ Vales, the Mass reminded everyone of the importance of sharing and selfless giving—values that lie at the heart of being educators of science and mathematics.

Following the Mass, UP NISMED recognized the invaluable contributions of its long-serving staff through the awarding of Certificates of Loyalty. Honored during the ceremony were: Cecile N. Sales, 40 years of service; Antonia H. Lopez, 35; Carlo M. Montillana, 35; Ferdinand C. Damasco, 30; Erlina R. Ronda, 30; and Doddie C. Bergado, 20. The awardees were also presented with personalized caricatures as tokens of appreciation, along with other surprises, in recognition of their faithful service to the Institute.
A major highlight of the celebration was the launch of the first-ever 2025 Gawad NISMED, a new institutional award created to recognize UP NISMED employees, academic groups, and administrative sections for their outstanding achievements and exemplary contributions toward fulfilling the Institute’s mandate as an arm of UP Diliman in advancing science and mathematics education. This year’s Gawad NISMED has four categories: Natatanging REPS (Levels 1 and 2), Natatanging Kawani (Levels 1, 2, and 3), Natatanging Pangkat sa Pang-Akademikong Gawain and Natatanging Pangkat sa Pang-Administratibong Gawain.
For its inaugural year, the High School Mathematics Group was honored for Natatanging Pangkat sa Pang-Akademikong Gawain, while the Library Services received the award for Natatanging Pangkat sa Pang-Administratibong Gawain. Both groups were awarded a cash prize of ₱5,000 each and a certificate recognizing their effective and efficient teamwork in supporting the activities and functions of the Institute. The award also acknowledges the cooperation and collective efforts that have made a meaningful contribution to the goals of UP NISMED.
The 61st Anniversary celebration served as a tribute to UP NISMED’s enduring legacy and an affirmation of its commitment to excellence in science and mathematics education. With the support from the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Mathematics Education and Research, Inc., the event was organized by General Assembly groups-in-charge: the Elementary School Mathematics Group, High School Chemistry Group, Art Section, and the Desktop & Printing Section. The program was hosted by Michael Siemens P. Uy of the High School Chemistry Group and Rachel Dorcas A. Lim of the Elementary School Mathematics Group.
