The University of the Philippines National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED) successfully concluded the 30-hour training-workshop "From Idea to Approval: Writing Effective Proposals" for instructional leaders of the Department of Education - Schools Division Office (SDO) Pasig City on 15 September 2025.
The program aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to craft compelling program proposals, addressing common challenges such as articulating problems, structuring proposals effectively, and developing narratives that secure approval and funding. Over six program days combining face-to-face sessions and asynchronous work, participants engaged in comprehensive workshops covering the entire proposal development cycle, from problem identification and design thinking to budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, and final pitch presentations.
The workshop was designed to develop understanding of proposal purpose and key components, identify common pitfalls and best practices, enable participants to state problems for given scenarios, apply design thinking in crafting solutions, develop complete program proposals, and revise proposals based on feedback. By the program's end, participants demonstrated proficiency in these areas, producing fully developed proposals ready for submission. The culminating session featured proposal pitching before a panel of reviewers, where participants received constructive feedback and refined their submissions for institutional approval.
All participants successfully produced program proposals, marking a tangible outcome of the initiative. The collaborative, hands-on approach was highly praised, with instructional leaders valuing peer learning and shared insights. Given the positive feedback, UP NISMED is considering future iterations to reach more educators seeking to strengthen their proposal-writing competencies.
